Dr. Brendan Quinn is a Research Officer in the Centre for Population Health at the Burnet Institute in Melbourne, Australia. He has been awarded the highly prestigious post-doctoral scholarship to work alongside Dr. Steven Shoptaw and his team in order to learn about our work with methamphetamine (MA) and how to engage MA users to reduce their use and other high risk behaviors. While this topic has been explored in depth in the United States, such research is rare in Australia where a recent news article reported that methamphetamine use in that country tripled over the past five years.
Dr. Quinn is an epidemiologist. His research includes licit and illicit drug trends, justice health issues, viral hepatitis, HIV, and gender-based violence in Australia and internationally. He has engaged in groundbreaking research, establishing the first cohort of methamphetamine users in Australia. He has also consulted for the World Health Organization, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, Save the Children and United Nations Children’s Fund.
